Photos that shook the world.

Photos that shook the world. 1. The Photograph That Raised the Photojournalistic Stakes:  "Omaha Beach, Normandy, France" Robert Capa, 1944 "If your pictures aren't good enough," war photographer Robert Capa used to say, "you aren't close enough." Words to die by, yes, but the man knew of what he spoke. After all, his most memorable shots were taken on the morning of D-Day, June 6, 1944, when he landed alongside the first waves of infantry at Omaha Beach. Caught under heavy fire, Capa dove for what little cover he could find, then shot all the film in his camera, and got out - just barely. He escaped with his life, but not much else. Of the four rolls of film Capa took of the horrific D-Day battle, all but 11 exposures were ruined by an overeager lab assistant, who melted the film in his rush to develop it. (He was trying to meet the deadline for the next issue of  Life  magazine.) In an ironic twist, however, that same mistake...

Can Apple IPhone Surprise Us Anymore?

Image
Can Apple IPhone Surprise Us Anymore? That iPhone 5 up there isn't an iPhone 5. It's a flawless computer image we had months before we ever saw the real thing, made possible by the fact that we knew exactly what it was going to look like. Exactly. Everyone did. We used to look forward to iPhone day like Christmas morning, or some sort of decadent electric Bat Mitzvah party. It was shrouded in secrecy. Apple secrets. "One more thing." Now, we get it all from China months in advance. Are Apple's exciting days over? Let's get one thing clear: Apple still makes exciting things.  The iPhone 5 is an incredible phone, and one that's genuinely exciting to own . There's nothing boring about the phone itself. But we knew what it was going to look like in  May . May! We had photos of the iPhone 5 a quarter of a year in advance of it even being announced. So when it  was announced, there was nothing to reveal—anyone who really cared had already seen it. ...

Audi S4 review, test drive

Audi S4 review, test drive The S4 is the top-dog of the new A4 range in India. It comes with a supercharged petrol V6 that makes 328bhp and boy, does it fly! DETAILS Make    Audi   Model    S4   Edition    TFSI 2012 6 photos           Top 5 Compact luxury saloons 1 New Audi A4 review, test drive 2 2011 Volvo S60 It looks like an A4, bolts like Usain and sounds like the build up to a storm. That, in a nutshell, is the Audi S4. It may look subtle and very domesticated, but, make no mistake, there is nothing delicate about the 3.0-litre, supercharged V6 under the hood. It’s the same as the one in the A6, except it makes exactly 38bhp more, in a car that weighs 110kg less. Let’s get the numbers out of the way – they are quite stunning, but there’s a lot more to this car than its 0-100kph time of 5.6sec. You’ll get to its top-speed of 250kph very quickly too. But w...

Beloved Master, I want to give up smoking. What do you say about it?

Question:  Beloved Master, I want to give up smoking. What do you say about it? Osho  : Mahendra, why? Why in the first place do you want to give up smoking? What is wrong in smoking? Yes, it is a little stupid, silly -- just poisoning your breath, taking smoke in and out, wasting money, life. But it is not a sin, it is not a crime either. You should not feel guilty about it. Maybe you will live a little less, two or three years less than you would have lived. But what is the point of living three years more? What will you do by living three years more? You will create a little more trouble in the world -- so better you go a little earlier. And the world is too much populated. Nobody had thought about birth control before. Now we are thinking constantly everywhere how to reduce the population, how to prevent new children from being born. Sooner or later we will have to think about the other end: how to help the old people to go faster, because that is absolutely logical...

What is Hadoop?

Hadoop is a free, Java-based programming framework that supports the processing of large data sets in a distributed computing environment. It is part of the  Apache  project sponsored by the Apache Software Foundation. Hadoop makes it possible to run applications on systems with thousands of nodes involving thousands of  terabyte s. Its distributed file system facilitates rapid  data transfer rate s among nodes and allows the system to continue operating uninterrupted in case of a node failure. This approach lowers the risk of catastrophic system failure, even if a significant number of nodes become inoperative. Hadoop was inspired by  Google 's  MapReduce , a software framework in which an application  is broken down into numerous small parts. Any of these parts (also called fragments or blocks) can be run on any  node  in the  cluster . Doug Cutting, Hadoop's creator, named the framework after his child's stuffed toy elephant. T...

Beloved Master, What does Love mean?

Question -  Beloved Master, What does Love mean? Osho  - Prem Jyoti, love has different meanings for all. To writers, love is words. To artists, love is color. To a comic, love is laughter. To a baby, it is mother. To bees, it's nectar. To flowers, it is sunshine. And to cows, it is a lot of bull. It all depends on you what love is going to mean. Love is a ladder with many rungs. At the lowest it is physiology, biology, chemistry. It is nothing but a play of hormones. A man is attracted towards a woman, a woman is attracted towards a man. They think they are falling in love, but if hormones could laugh they must be laughing inside you -- you are befooled. What you are calling love is nothing but attraction between male and female hormones. It is pure chemistry; at the lowest point it is not more than that. It is animal, it is lust. And millions of people know only love at its lowest. Because of these people there has arisen a great tradition of renouncing love. The peopl...
