Pause to think about life as the years flow under the bridge

Pause to think about life as the years flow under the bridge MANUAL works 30 years without stopping, educates his children, gives them a good example, devotes his entire time to work, and never asks: “Is there truly any meaning to what I am doing?” He only concerns himself with the thought that the busier you are, the more important you become in the eyes of society.

Now, send free SMS through Gmail chat

Now, send free SMS through Gmail chat It is finally here. The free SMS service right from your Gmail chat window.  Almost a year after the service was introduced in the United States and many other countries, the service has now been made available to Indian users. You could now send a text message to most mobile operators across the country from the comfort of your computer, although there is a prominent exception, at least for users in Bangalore. The Gmail Free SMS service is available for connection to mobile phones with SIMs of many operators, including BSNL, Aircel, Idea, Loop Mobile, MTS, Reliance, Tata DoCoMo, Tata Indicom and Vodafone. However, repeated test messages to Airtel mobiles failed to get the SMSes delivered. Once you send an SMS from the chat window to a mobile phone other than Airtel’s, you wait for a response. The replies will appear as regular chat replies  and conversations will also be stored in your chat history. The new feature was rolled out t...

Times News

The report of this unusual case last September was just the latest shock from a bracing new field, the science of consciousness. Questions once confined to theological speculations and late-night dorm-room bull sessions are now at the forefront of cognitive neuroscience. With some problems, a modicum of consensus has taken shape. With others, the puzzlement is so deep that they may never be resolved. Some of our deepest convictions about what it means to be human have been shaken. It shouldn't be surprising that research on consciousness is alternately exhilarating and disturbing. No other topic is like it. As René Descartes noted, our own consciousness is the most indubitable thing there is. The major religions locate it in a soul that survives the body's death to receive its just deserts or to meld into a global mind. For each of us, consciousness is life itself, the reason Woody Allen said, "I don't want to achieve immortality through my work. I want to achieve...

Native App, Mobile app and Web Apps

Mobile applications: native v Web apps – what are the pros and cons? The difference between the capabilities of Web-based and native mobile apps is narrowing rapidly. Before embarking on a mobile app you need to know the facts. Global Intelligence Alliance (GIA)’s Lie Luo gives the low-down on each. Rapid advances in HTML5, the new more mobile friendly version of the Web language, and the hard work by the standards body World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to create standard interfaces across mobile devices mean that Web apps can – or will be able to – do many of the things that native apps can do. Early this year GIA released a pioneering research paper entitled  Native or Web Application?  that surveyed businesses that had created both Web apps and mobile apps. Who better to guide us through the pros and cons of each platform than the author of that report, Lie Luo? This is the fourth in our series of six app-related articles, interviews and guides.
